Alvarez Returns to Vandy Lineup, Posey Continues to Rake


Vanderbilt University, currently ranked 8th in the country, got a huge boost Tuesday as All American third baseman Pedro Alvarez returned to the Vanderbilt lineup for the first time since February 22nd. The junior suffered a broken bone in the first game of the season against Oregon State. Alvarez went 1-4 with a double and a run scored in the loss to Southeast Missouri 12-8. Rightfielder Dominic de la Osa went 2-5 with an RBI.

Buster Posey went 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI and shortstop Tony Delmonico collected three hits in a 10-2 Seminoles win over Florida. Posey continues to have an outstanding year, batting .456 with nine doubles, two triples, and eight home runs. He has twenty three walks while striking out just eight times. Freshman leadoff hitter Tyler Holt was 1-3 with two runs scored while collecting his team leading 34th walk of the season.

Rice shortstop Rick Hague went 2-5 including a pair of doubles in a 7-3 win over Texas. The freshman also had three RBI on the day.

James Darnell had four of the nine Gamecock hits in a 7-4 win against The Citadel. The junior had two doubles and three RBI.

Danny Espinosa hit a home run in the fourth but it wasn’t enough as Long Beach lost to Fresno State 7-6.
