Weeks Swipes 3 Bases, Ackley Extends Streak to 13

In Georgia Tech’s 4-1 win over Western Carolina Tuesday, freshman Derek Dietrich hit a two run home run in the second inning. The shortstop from Ohio was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2007 MLB draft. The home run was the first of his collegiate career.

In Texas Tech’s 15-6 rout of Central Arkansas, Roger Kieschnick crushed his fourth home run of the year, an opposite field bomb to right.

Down in Coral Gables, Miami defeated Lehigh 9-2.Jemile Weeks went 3 for 5 and stole a career high three stolen bases. Sophomore shortstop Ryan Jackson collected two hits, including his first career home run in the fourth inning. Jackson has four doubles, a triple, and a home run, which adds up to a .773 slugging percentage. He also has struck out only once in 22 at bats and has been flawless in the field. Speedy center fielder Blake Tekotte was 2-4 with two runs scored. First baseman Yonder Alonso went 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

North Carolina beat up on William and Mary in a 10-2 win. Dustin Ackley extended his hitting streak to 13 games, going 2-4. Highly touted freshman right hander Matt Harvey recorded his first win. He went four innings, striking out five. He allowed just one earned run on three hits and two walks. Tim Fedroff went 3-4 with a two run homer and four RBI.

Ryan Flaherty went 2-5, hitting a two run homer in the first in a 17-6 Vandy win over Louisville. Dominic de la Osa also homered, finishing 2-4.

Junior transfer Marcel Champagnie hit a two run home run in Arizona State’s 18-1 win over New Mexico. It was the shortstop’s first career home run.
