UCLA Lefty Tim Murphy Throws Complete Game Shutout on ESPN2

UCLA beat. Bethune-Cookman on ESPN2 Saturday night in a pitcher’s duel. UCLA lefty Tim Murphy struck out a season- high 10 batters and walked no one in a complete game shutout. His fastball ranged from 88-91, but it was his sharp curve and changeup that he used to give hitters fits. Bethune-Cookman soft tossing lefthander Gio Gauthier pitched well, allowing only one run on two hits through seven innings. He had seven strikeouts and no walks. Right fielder Gabe Cohen crushed a solo home run to left field to lead off the top of the seventh inning to give UCLA a 1-0 lead.

Reese Havens continues to hit out of his mind for the South Carolina Gamecocks. The junior shortstop hit a grand slam against Clemson last night in his team’s 10-1 win. Havens is now hitting .526 with four home runs in USC’s first five games. Pitcher Mike Cisco threw 7.1 innings, giving up one run.

The Rice Owls beat the Texas Longhorns at Minute Maid Park last night. Freshman center fielder Chad Mozingo didn’t let up, going 3-5 with a home run to right. Diego Seastrunk homered as well. Freshman shortstop Rick hague went 2-5 in the game, including a 408 foot home run which he crushed off the façade in left center field.
