Sunday's Highlights

In Portland Oregon, Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham went 3-4 with 2 HR’s and 3 RBI in a 5-4 loss to the OSU Beavers. His first home run came in the first with 2 outs, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. He then hit a 2 run blast to center to give his team a 3-1 lead. However, it wasn’t enough, as freshman Greg Peavey threw 6 2/3 strong innings to receive a no decision. He allowed 4 runs on 3 home runs.

UCLAs Alden Carrithers hit a 2 run double to center field with 2 outs in the eighth inning to lead the Bruins to a 4-3 win over USC at Dedeaux Field Sunday. He finished 2 for 5 with 2 RBI. Shortstop Brandon Crawford was 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Jermaine Curtis went 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Trojan shortstop Grant Green returned to the lineup to start his 2nd game of the season, going 0 for 3.

In Long Beach, first baseman Shane Peterson knocked in 5 runs to help his Dirtbags sweep Wichita State 8-3. Freshman Jacob Thompson, who skipped his senior season of high school to play for LBSU this season, threw seven innings, striking out eight and walking no one. He settled down after giving up 2 runs in the first, and allowed only 5 hits for the rest of the game.

I think Carrithers is an underrated 2nd baseman. He led the team last year in hitting with an average around .350 and is off to a good start this year.

I'd rather have David Adams at Virginia. That guy rakes. He hit like 14 doubles in the Cape.
